Graduate Studies
Welcome and thank you for your interest in graduate study at the University of South Florida Department of Communication. Our graduate programs emphasize critical and qualitative research, a focus that is unusual among graduate programs in the field of Communication. We offer a broad and integrated approach to Communication Studies that embraces the traditions of the humanities, the convergence of rhetorical and communication theory, and the relations among aesthetic, humanistic, and scientific approaches to inquiry. We invite students to focus on topics or problems that inspire them to self-directed work. Student programs are largely designed around such individual interests with the supervision of an advisor and a faculty committee Our students are encouraged to examine the pragmatics of rhetorical and communication theory in such settings as business and industry, government, education, medicine and health care, media, the arts, and the family. The department offers course work leading to the Master of Arts degree and the Doctor of Philosophy.
